This native relative of the avocado delivers a potent fragrance all its own. A heady blend of eucalyptus, menthol, clove and vanilla, the dried leaves can be used in sauces & soups like its Mediterranean namesake for true local California flavor. A slow grower, California Bay survives in shade, takes to pruning and is very drought tolerant. Naturally grows in foothills and valleys among California's mixed oak, redwood and pine forests.
